ARCHITECTURE
AND PHYSICIALITY:
FEBRUARY 16 2022

In 2020, my bed became my unofficial office.

Daytimes were dedicated to designing buildings, and nights? A philosophical wrestle: What’s the point of buildings in a world where no one's gathering?

While the future of social closeness was uncertain, a nagging feeling crept up: was I, an architect striving for meaningful impact, suddenly becoming... irrelevant?

According to Architecture 2030, buildings and their construction generate nearly 40% of the worlds greenhouse gasses. LA was in a 1200 year drought that year.  My math said that my sense of disconnection in the architecture sector was more valid than I feared.

The more disconnected I felt, the more I sought connection. Three things played Cupid:

  1. Body over Blueprint: In 2021, I ventured into CrossFit. This open-air gym journey wasn't just about muscles; it was therapy. Pushing my body made me confront my emotions and past, especially growing up queer in 90s Texas. A renaissance of old and new memories, in every drop of sweat.

  2. Tales from the Therapist’s Couch: I began peeling layers of my life I'd ignored - the highs, the lows, the struggles, and the resilience. Speaking out, healing in.

3. The Magic of Minimal: Being isolated on South Pass Hill made me value my friends more. I realized my issues with intimacy, often masked by city life's hustle and bustle, were real. But as we met in smaller groups, less became more. True connection was rediscovered, cherished.

Dreaming of spaces where chemistry isn't just science, but magic. A realm of closeness, brewing bonds beyond bricks. Whenever doubt clouds my way, spotting a good omen is my sunshine! This blog? Think of it as a deep dive into creative minds – exploring their art, facing their fears, and chasing what sets their souls on fire. Got thoughts or stories? Let’s brew a conversation!
